Mark 10:13-16

13 People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. 14But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. 15Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.’ 16And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.

Devotional

In Mark 10:13-16, there were some unsettling actions. The disciples were rejecting blessings from Jesus to the children, which astonished him. He believes what everyone else should believe in, which is the future. Children promise a bright, new future, if they are brought up right. If Jesus hadn’t realized that the children were being turned away, then those children wouldn’t follow Jesus, and the children’s children won’t follow him, and so on and so forth. This season of Advent can teach us more than being ready for what is ahead. Advent literally means “to come”. If we treat our children with love and care now, it will lead to a better future to come.
